Textile Patchwork: Arpilleras (Ages 11-15)

Experiment with textiles! Campers will bring their ideas to life by making their own patchwork scene using needle and thread, fabric scraps, beads, and found objects. Tell stories through the South American folk textile tradition of Arpilleras.

Curator Talk with Aaron Levi Garvey

Garvey is the curator for the current exhibition Flashing the Leather, which through the work of multiple artists, takes a deep dive into baseball’s social underpinnings, using metaphors, concepts and superstitions from the sport.

The Lost Cause

The Lost Cause merges art history and contemporary imagery to construct an alternate reality, critiquing representations of race, masculinity and ultimately exploring “history” as a malleable and inherently creative enterprise. The work reimagines symbols and elements of history and imbues them with a new mythology replete with iconography that subverts white male gaze.

Soft Grand Opening of the Historic Avenue Cultural Center

Basics of Handbuilding Ceramics

In this Thursday night beginners’ ceramics class, instructor Kyle Miller guides students through introductory handbuilding techniques – pinch pot, slab, coil, and beginner sculpture – to create functional ceramic ware.
