Alabama Contemporary has new paid opportunities for artists and curators!
ACAC has a long-standing history of bringing socially relevant contemporary exhibitions to the Deep South. As the only institution committed solely to the art of our time within 150 mile radius, we have made it a point to be a venue for impactful, socially engaged, challenging and divergent practices in contemporary art. In 2017 ACAC began shifting its focus from big names to big ideas. We began changing the exhibition schedule to allow for more exhibitions per year, greater diversity in our programming, and more opportunities for emerging and mid-career artists. We are a very small staff with a big building and a big mission. In order to sustain this new schedule we launched a Guest Curator Program as well as a proposal process for artist-led site-specific Independent Projects. We have implemented W.A.G.E. pay standards and are committed to valuing all creative labor. This proposal is part of a broader re-assessment of how we serve the community, with a goal to increase the number of quality opportunities we provide to living artists, and the cultural value of our reach.
We are focused on facilitating the growth of artists and amplifying the impact of art in our community. Our goal is to create growth in the creative economy of the South by commissioning new work, paying artists, and actively creating new opportunities for emerging artists and curators. Join us to find out how to apply to the Guest Curator program or Independent Projects program, and get updates on our exhibition schedule and approach.
